Darian is 5 – Part 1

The night before Darian’s birthday, his favourite yiyi and John appeared at our door to surprise him with a birthday cake. Darian was really elated to see them! 🙂 Before that, he had mommy’s homecooked birthday meesua for dinner. This silly boy was so happy to see two eggs in his bowl. 🙂

Day 1

The next day, we set off to Sentosa where we would be spending our next two nights there. Needless to say, double Ds were extremely thrilled about the staycation. On the way, we picked up the grandparents who would be joining us for Darian’s birthday lunch at Earle Swenson’s, Vivo City, followed by a visit to Madame Tussauds Sentosa. Since we were all wearing blues except for my father in law. I bought him a blue shirt upon reaching Vivo City. So it’s Team Blue day out! 🙂

After a hearty lunch, we took the Sentosa Express over to Madame Tussuads Singapore. This is our second visit to a Madame Tussuads museum. The first one was in Washington D.C. I suppose our kiddos have no issues about visiting a wax figures museum because both of them are least camera shy and in fact quite a poser. Haha 🙂  MTS housed over 60 wax figures of both local and international leaders and stars. This is the time when one could have no reservations taking selfies and pictures with all those famous people. Some stations even have props for creative and fun shots. We all had fun posing around and taking pictures with the figures. For us, taking a picture with ‘Mr and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew’ is definitely a must at MTS. The trip wouldn’t be complete without a picture with them. Last but not least, the unique feature here got to be the boat ride that takes visitors on a journey through the iconic sights in Singapore. Despite a quick ride, I thought it did bring out the essences of Singapore. 🙂

After sending the grandparents back, we checked into the Festive hotel where we would be staying for three days and two nights. This was our second staycation here in RWS. Although there was a bunk bed and sofa bed available in the room, we still preferred to snuggle each other to sleep on the king size bed. Well at least I didn’t wake up to backaches. 🙂

We ended Day 1 with dinner at Din Tai Feng, RWS, followed by a quick shopping at Vivo city. It was a good thing that Vivo City was accessible by the Sentosa Express. This made traveling in and out of Sentosa much easier.

Day 1 was fun but Day 2 was even better! 🙂

Fun time at Polliwogs

Polliwogs indoor playground was one of the must-go-place for Darian after we returned from Virginia. He has been talking about the place all the time for the past one year and even concluded that in his to-go-list. Haha yes he has a to-eat-list as well! See this was just how much he had missed Singapore at that time. 😉

So that free afternoon, we decided to give doubles Ds a surprise by bringing them to the new Polliwog outlet at Vivocity. Seeing their expressions upon reaching the entrance was priceless. They were super elated!

Double Ds had two hours of fun exploring the new place. They were beaming with joy the whole time. The obstacles tunnels didn’t stop Dyann from running and climbing around the place. This active girl was so fast that I had to follow her closely. Papa Yap and I took turns to supervise the kids. I couldn’t imagine myself crawling, climbing and moving through the narrow areas throughout their playtime. My back would break. Haha 😉

Yet another happy day for the kiddos. They absolutely enjoy playtime at Polliwogs. Papa Yap and I were happy to see double Ds enjoying themselves so much too. Simple pleasure of parenthood isn’t it? 🙂

RWS: Day 2

***21st May 13***

Woke up at 7ish for breakfast at the Fiesta restaurant at level 3. Just some average typical american and chinese breakfast buffet spread. Well still good enough for us to start our day. Wanted to bring the kids to the pool for a swim but I didn’t manage to buy Baby Dyann’s swim diaper. So we went back to the room and the kids had a bubble bath before going over to Universal Studio.

It’s our second time to the USS. Darian was not keen on taking any ride at all. He was just on a photo taking mode. What a spontaneous poser he was. Posing here and there! Haha… 🙂 This time round we didn’t allow him to get any souvenirs as he didn’t want to try on any rides. Yep we usually don’t give in to him that easily! Though he did take the Madagascar carousel, Puss in boots ferris wheel and the transformer spinner. Hmm… Still not enough. Baby Dyann took a ride on the carousel too! 🙂 After lunch, I rented a stroller for Darian as he looked real tired. It was really a wise decision. He dozed off shortly. Baby Dyann as well. Papa Yap and I walked around with two sleeping kids. We managed to take photo with Elmo and Ernie. Darian was real mad at us when I told him about it. He cried and blamed us for not waking him up. Haha… We left at 6pm and went to the Malaysian Food Street next to USS for dinner. Papa Yap didn’t like his Bah kut teh and I thought my wanton mee was bad. Haha… So dinner was not good at all.

We proceeded to Sentosa beach for the Songs of the Sea. It is a show of live casts, digital laser light, water and flame effects and music. It wasn’t easy to watch the performance with Baby Dyann. Oh seriously, I was like battling with an active yet listness baby! She was struggling and making noises throughout the performance. Thank goodness it was only for 25 minutes. Phew… We headed to Vivo City thereafter as I need to get the swim diapers for Baby Dyann. Darian knew exactly that we were at Vivo and insisted to visit Toy R Us. It’s his favourite hideout in Vivo for sure. Haha… We filled up our tummy with some sushi from Cold Storage before returning back to the hotel. We were totally exhausted with aching feet! Still a fantastic Tuesday though! ❤❤

A jolly good Saturday

***24th November***

We were at Vivo City in the afternoon to do some shopping for Papa Yap and Darian. After buying Darian’s birthday pressie from Toy R Us and Papa Yap’s Pedro shoes, we walked over to Harbourfront Mothercare to get some clothing for the kids. We happened to see a bear costumed character in Harbourfront and Darian was not afraid of it at all. He rushed forward and gave it a beary hug. 🙂 Before we reached Mothercare, Baby Dyann woke up from an hour of nap and so we brought her to Baby Spa for a swimming session first instead. It is a must to let the babies drink milk and take a nap an hour before the swim as they tend to get real grouchy if they are tired or hungry. We were glad that she did not fuss at all throughout the session and in fact enjoyed the swim. She was busy kicking the water and floating around. So adorable can!

After getting some clothing from Harbourfront Mothercare, we headed to Tampines Mall Putien for Darian’s birthday dinner together with my parents in law. I love the food there especially the signature “Fried Heng Hwa Bee Hoon”. The well-flavoured Bee hoon is fine and chewy and to eat it with all the ingredients is simply delightful! Thumbs up! 🙂 Honestly, the rest of the dishes is mouth-watering too. I was too busy eating that I had forgotten to take the pictures of the two dishes Stir fried Yam and Homemade beancurd. Hah never mind there will always be another time. 😉

Right after dinner, I surprised Darian with the Angry Bird cake from Polar Cakes shop and he was super happy. The Putien Restaurant gave us a complimentary polaroid shot as we had a birthday celebration there. Nice! And so the family polaroid shot was given to my mother in law as momento. After the fabulous dinner, we continued with our shopping. We went to mothercare again and this time, my mother in law bought tops for the kids. So we reached home with much shopping loots and a truly happy boy who simply cannot wait to open up all his pressies and play with them! 🙂

Their first time

***14th August***

It’s the father and son maiden shopping trip out to the Vivo City together. Initially, he thought that I would be going as well. After explaining to him that it would be just him and Papa Yap, he agreed to go. Usually, he would not follow anyone out, even Papa Yap… This time round, I’m so glad that he agreed with it. According to Papa Yap, little Darian was well behaved throughout the entire shopping trip. He held Papa Yap’s hand tight and walked around the mall without having to remind him to. As usual, Papa Yap had brought him to Vivo Toy R Us for his haircut. So little Darian has an objective in mind. He wants to get his hair done so that he can buy his hot wheels toy set. Haha… Right after clearing his mission, he told his father that he wants to go home, back to Mama’s house. Haha… See it’s difficult for him to be separated from me even for 2 hours. Just can’t imagine when he starts schooling next year. Anyway, house was really peaceful when the two boys were out. I managed to catch an hour of uninterupted sleep which I seriously in need of! Later, I told Papa Yap that he seriously should do this often! Hehe 🙂

with his loot after his haircut. 🙂

Haircut Drama

***23rd June***

As usual, we brought Darian to Vivo City Toy ‘R’ Us Junior League for his haircut. By the time we reached there at 7.15pm, the hairdresser has stopped accepting customers as there were still many under waiting list. Oh dear, it seems like a wasted trip… Just imagine all the way from Punggol to Vivo! Little Darian insisted having his haircut at Junior League. Hmm… Most likely it’s because he knows that he can get a present after his haircut. Since we were already there, we managed to convince him to have his haircut at harbour front EC House then thereafter we will head back to Toy ‘R’ Us for his toy. Hah and that’s when the nightmare began… We went in and out of the salon like 4 times with a crying toddler hanging on tight to the father. Yet, each time when we told him that we would be going back home, he cried louder and exclaimed that he wants to have his haircut. However when we brought him into the Salon, he refused to neither sit on the train nor Papa Yap’s lap. Yes there is even a train as seat for toddler and it didn’t attract him at all! Gosh and worst of all, I was having real bad backaches! The pain was killing me… Both of us were fuming mad, especially Papa Yap. Well we didn’t insist him to have his haircut done, it was him who kept crying and wanting to cut his hair. It’s just so difficult to handle him! Papa Yap decided to bring the crying toddler to another Salon at Vivo City b1. This time round, Papa Yap told him that this would be his very last chance and if he refused his haircut again then we would just head back home. And Darian agreed! Haha ya right… the same shit happened. In the end, we headed home with a crying toddler, a almost back-breaking mother and super angry father! Haha…what a Saturday night…

***25th June***

Definitely Darian needed a haircut, his hair is way too long and messy! So we are back at Junior League after my check up at Dr Ang’s. And YES, he did had his hair cut done! Weird right?! At Junior League, he was able to sit on the booster seat himself and cooperate throughout the haircut. Haha… Annoying indeed… Well it is really not easy being parents nowadays hah! Anyway so long he doesn’t cry and struggle during haircut, we are very much willing to bring him there and I can use it as an excuse to shop around too! So why not… hehe… 🙂

After 🙂 My handsome boy… muackz…

And of course he got his toys! 🙂

Snip Snip Snipety Snip

***1st May***

Brought Darian to Vivo City Kids Junior League in Toys R Us for his haircut. Despite the journey and price ($22), apparently this is the only place that could pacify him after his hair cut as the kids salon is situated right inside Toys R Us. So after his haircut, he is able to recover fast seeing all those toys and he knew he could get a toy as a reward. What an expensive haircut! haha… Seriously hair cutting sessions are like nightmare. We had tried going to the barber and hairdresser. But he detested haircuts so much and would struggle, fidget and cry bloody murder in the midst of the sessions. No joke, he cried and screamed so loud that many passerby stopped and looked at us! Haha…  Perhaps he didn’t like the environment and felt very tensed sitting in there. Anyway we do not want to traumatize him with such experiences therefore we are willing to travel all the way to Vivo City just for his haircut after the first experience there. At least he was much willing to be seated on Papa Yap’s lap to cut his hair, of course with whines, fidgets and little cries.

Before his haircut.

This time, to our surprise, he was very cooperative and brave! Upon his turn, he walked into the mini salon holding onto his queue no card and willingly sit on the booster seat by himself. He also allowed the hairdresser to wrap the plastic cover around his neck. Hehe… Such a relieved. Looking at him at that instant, I can’t help to realise that my boy has grown up so much! A big boy now. 🙂 And of course he got toys as a reward after the haircut session. Hopefully the next haircut session would be as smoothly as this one. *Crossing our fingers*

After his haircut. My handsome boy!
