Baby Dyann’s Baby Shower

***1st September***

It’s Baby Dyann’s 1st month old party!

According to Chinese traditions, when a baby turns one month old, a ceremony is held to celebrate her first first full moon (Man Yue) and the health of the baby. At the same time, it also coincides with the end of the mother’s confinement period which both mother and baby are formally introduced for the first time.

So we woke up early to prepare for the day. My sister, Bi Jun and John came over at 8am to decorate the common corridor for the party too! 🙂 While the three of them were busy with the decorations, we were getting ready for the busy afternoon. Papa Yap gets to trim Baby Dyann’s hair and we safe kept her hair in a red packet. Well traditionally, we ought to shave baby’s head. However nowadays not many parents observe this practice. So instead, we trim a little bit of Dyann’s hair to symbolise the shedding of the “birth hair” (hair from the womb). After the first hair cut, Zhen jie bathed Baby Dyann in water mixed with pomelo leaves and five colours flowers. It is said to wash off any unwanted and evil vibes. And I got a pail of those to bath with too!

Bathing time!

Soon the party began. The pretty decorations was all up. All thanks to my sis and BiJun! The corridor was beautifully decorated. With the help of Papa Jeff and Ang, the balloons were all up in time for the party too. 🙂 My sister even sponsored 10 boxes of polaroid films for Baby Dyann’s Baby Shower. How nice of her! 🙂 The Buffet spread from Deli Hub was all ready and guests started coming in after 12pm. We had two sessions of buffet so that the later guests would have fresher food. 😉 The event ended around 8pm. We were totally exhausted, same for Darian. While we were busy hosting, he was busy playing the whole day. Haha 😉

Polaroids! 🙂

Let’s look at the pretty decorations along the corridor

We had ordered the first month cake together with Ang Ku Kueh and red eggs from Bengawan Solo for our relatives to bring home. I am glad that I’d decided on Bengawan Solo rather than Sweetest Moment (We had it for Darian’s first month). It is definitely worth it! 🙂
The Baby Shower was a success! Yet we didn’t manage to go around for phototaking except for the polaroids. Such a waste. 😦
Anyway many many thanks to all our relatives and friends who gather to give their blessings, gifts, red packets and cash vouchers to our second bundle of joy, Dyann Yap Zi Ying. 🙂
